The Modern Wealthy is an online business training resource I found several years ago. You can read my Modern Wealthy review here. At the time I was looking to build my kung fu school up, but was struggling to find new students. I tried everything I could think of but nothing seemed to work. My problem was I didn’t know how to use online advertising techniques to build my school.
During the process of learning these techniques for marketing affiliate products, I learned an important concept from Stuart’s Modern Wealthy program.
Modern Wealthy Online Training Program
The Modern Wealthy is an online training resource which explains how to generate sales online through various online marketing techniques. Now I was already familiar with affiliate marketing before I found the Modern Wealthy course. But I was definitely struggling to make money with it. After a recent review of the course materials I noticed Stuart has upgraded the course material to include AI resources within it.
This allows you to fine tune your business around your interests and passions, and understand your own motivations in a deeper way. Why is this important for online business? Simple, unless you’re intrinsically motivated with your business, it’s much less likely to succeed. Money alone is seldom the motivation you need to sustain a course of action required to continue past the obstacles on the entrepreneurial journey.
So, What Turned Around My Kung Fu School?
I’ve been teaching Kung Fu since 2010 and students have come and gone. I’m lucky enough to have retained some long term students who have been training in Wing Chun Kung Fu since the early days of my school.
But I have struggled with numbers since the beginning of teaching. It has definitely been a learning curve as to what helps keeps students interested and what gets them to the school in the first place.
But it was one specific piece of advice that Stuart drummed home to me that actually stuck from his Modern Wealthy course – and that was customer avatar!
I considered who my customer avatar was just a few months ago for my Kung Fu school and realised there was a missed opportunity! Most people have never heard of Wing Chun – the style of Kung Fu that I teach. But many have heard of Bruce Lee and now Ip Man – Bruce Lee’s teacher and modern day Wing Chun founder.
This was the missing piece of the puzzle I discovered. Also known as customer avatar – the “perfect customer” who wants your product/service the most, is happy to pay and who will keep subscribing to your service for potentially years to come.
Modern Wealthy & Customer Avatar
I knew there was a greater potential to find more students who wanted to learn this amazing martial art. I just didn’t know how to get them to my classes. Offering freebies didn’t seem to work either – nobody seemed to stick.
I discovered a simple strategy and found my customer avatar – people who watched the Ip Man films! This was the advert I came up with – which connected people who had seen the Ip Man films to my classes.
For those who haven’t seen the Ip Man films, it stars Donnie Yen (above left in my poster).
I targeted people locally to my classes and offered them a free taster session. Just a few months later and classes are booming! It’s the best result I could have hoped for!
I now have a steady flow of beginners in my taster sessions, and a nice steady increase in numbers of dedicated students. It’s all thanks to the Modern Wealthy training and my finally putting together a strategy which worked!
I got fed up of throwing money away testing advert upon advert which didn’t work. I had a similar experience with affiliate marketing too.
But I decided to revisit the training modules in the Modern Wealthy and in particular the one on customer avatar stuck this time.
Other Influences
Of course I also used a few other strategies I had learned from the Modern Wealthy. I found my customer avatar, sent them to a landing page, and collected their email address. This is something rather important too that I learned. Once you have an email, you can follow up and make further contact with subscribers. Sending paid advertising to a website alone is much less efficient.
Most people land on a website, leave and never come back. Not all of my subscribers went ahead and booked the free taster session. Not all of my tasters turned into membership either. But it was ok because there was a steady flow of new people! I could finally relax and let the automation do the work for me.
I set my automated email to ask the subscriber to book a free taster session and many of them did this straight away, some did it with a reminder email. It all made it rather simple to attract new students without working really hard for it; something I had been doing wrong for a while.
Mindset training I had learned also fed into this success too, I believe. Before I was programmed to struggle. Easily and effortlessly became a new mantra for me, rather than “life’s a struggle”.
