Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek teamed up in 2010 to create the SFM – Six Figure Mentors. It’s a online business community and all in one business system and mentorship program which anyone can use to build an income from the internet. I joined the SFM in 2014 and met both Stuart and Jay within a few months of joining in London, UK for a momentum seminar.

Here’s a picture of me with Jay Kubassek from Momentum day. Seminars are held globally throughout the year. Although the lockdown has recently put pay to them, Stuart and Jay actually show up for their members in these trainings. They also hold regular live webinars and seminars throughout the year as do many of their members.

Although there’s a few bad reviews I’ve found about the SFM, (many of them used to promote other affiliate products), I found both Stuart and Jay to be very genuine. They offer not just another “earn money online” course, but a community of like minded entrepreneurs who are actually there for each other to learn and grow their online businesses. Plus they are still around years later.

I didn’t know quite what was in stall for me going through the program though. As with probably many affiliate marketers, I expected an “easy ride” when I first started learning about affiliate marketing before having met Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek.

As time went on I realised that it’s not at all easy. I think this is what many get wrong when approaching any kind of business. Back when I first approached affiliate marketing in the early 2000’s there were lots of scammy programs around, many of which have since disappeared. I first found a video of Stuart Ross on Facebook and was at the time struggling with my affiliate business. I joined up, because I was desperate to escape the circumstances I was finding myself in – working jobs I hated and struggling to pay the rent.

I wasn’t sure what to expect and had already invested in a number of online courses. But Stuart didn’t lay claim to any high earnings which were easily obtained. I think this is what set him apart to all of the other sensationalist videos I had bought into before. I was also pleasantly surprised to find the community behind the founders. I was super-sceptical and expected my first meeting to be an empty garage!

The affiliate who had referred me created a co-op for marketing and I trusted him with some budget. This was a huge leap for me, but it paid off and I made my first high ticket sale within a few months of joining. The initial momentum I generated kept me involved but I think because it was a relatively “easy win” I hadn’t learned the skills myself to create the sale I made.

I later made a couple more high ticket sales from my blog posts and running an Adwords campaign to an article I had written. Despite the success of a few large value commissions, I found myself in full doubt mode later on and thought about dropping out.

Reaching Out

The previous courses I had taken online taught me to be self reliant. But with that I had also learned to avoid asking for help and do everything by myself! When I did finally reach out I was assigned two mentors who I met up with on live webinars on a weekly basis. Jill and Frank I’m super grateful you kept me going! The community and support is probably the best thing about The SFM. If you reach out, people are there. This was something I had never experienced in the previous online courses I had taken.
I’m sure there’s many others who drop out at this point but I’m so glad I didn’t. I kept going and changed my trajectory. I had been focused on free strategies but mostly had done blogging.

I was recommended a weekly webinar to join and started following another mentor – Dan! I’m super grateful Dan and always will be.

Since this I made a huge breakthrough and well, wow! The system does work but there’s a lot of work to be done initially. But once you do break through the doubt and fear, there’s an amazing strategy behind this business. With the automation and business model, you can earn in multiple ways:

• Subscription products – pay you over and over
• High ticket products – help you scale up and reinvest marketing budget
• Multi-tier sales – I haven’t seen these commissions yet but it’s a way of earning from your referrals’ sales.
• Up-sells – There’s a range of high value products which offer huge value
• Built in sales team – A dedicated sales team closing sales on your behalf.

It’s A Business Not A Get Rich Quick Scheme

If you remember that it’s a business and not a get rich quick scheme, and you take full responsibility for all the results, you can’t go too far wrong. I expect that many do expect results without putting themselves as the cause though. Something like 3% of business owners actually break through and achieve success with a business of any kind. With online business it’s no different. There’s obstacles and things which stand in your way. Many of them are your own beliefs, judgements and limitations.

Sadly though most affiliates will drop out before they even get 1000 subscribers on their email list. With affiliate marketing being so accessible, this also means there’s a high drop out rate.

If you take it seriously and stick with it, it can be life changing. But if you think it’s going to be easy, you’ll be disappointed. So it’s maybe not for you!
