Here’s my affiliate marketing mentors blog! I’ve been an affiliate marketer since the early 2000’s and I ran into a lot of problems which, perhaps you have too?

I tried all sorts of strategies at first from building niche websites, running Google Adwords ads, blogging and using free blog platforms such as Hubpages and Blogger.com.

The struggle was pretty real but I was determined to make affiliate marketing work for me because life was so difficult in the many jobs I juggled to keep the wolf from the door!

In 2014 I found a community of online marketing mentors. I decided to start agains from scratch and “empty my cup”. It was tough and it’s hard to let go of thinking you know something when you really don’t!

I don’t consider myself an affiliate marketing mentor, although I hope that this website helps people who are learning. No, I’m still, and always will be a student, which means I can keep emptying my cup when it gets too full of the idea that I know something. The online world changes a lot and very quickly. So just when you think you are getting somewhere, everything is different and you’re starting all over again!

How To Earn Commissions Online

Want to know how to earn commissions online? Anyone can earn commissions online by selling other people’s products. Your unique affiliate link is tracked and you receive payment based on what you sell.

Affiliate marketing is the business model which lets anyone promote other people’s products over the internet. You get paid based on the sales you refer.

How To Earn Commissions Online – Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is basically referral marketing. When you successfully refer a customer to a product, you receive a commission based on that sale. It’s a little like recommending a friend to a nice restaurant. Except when your referrals go to the restaurant and buy a meal, you get paid!

You’ll find affiliate marketers all around the internet. They recommend products and services which you might have already purchased through their affiliate links.

Not all affiliates earn the same amount of commissions though and, depending on how you go about an affiliate marketing business, you can have varying levels of success. Affiliates choose products to promote and then promote them through various means and strategies:

Blogging – writing content on a website or blog
Paid marketing – Using the various paid platforms available
Email marketing (list building)
Video marketing (YouTube)
Using various social media platforms
Offline marketing – using traditional marketing strategies such as newspaper advertising, leafleting etc.

How To Earn Commissions Online – Automatic Selling Systems

The best way to advertise online is to use automation in your marketing strategy and automated online selling systems to sell. With an automatic marketing method, you can run adverts 24 hours a day on complete autopilot. By selling other people’s products online using automation, you can earn a scalable income and all without trading your time for money.

In most jobs, people trade their time for money and are paid by the hour. Since your time is finite, and there’s only so many hours in the day, there’s always a cap to what you can earn; even on a great income. But with products and the internet, which offers a global reach, automation and selling can replace your income and create an uncapped income potential.

Affiliate products work well for this too because you don’t personally have to handle products or deal with customers. Affiliates just create pathways to send customers to products. Postage and customer service is handled by the company with the products, so your only concern is referring customers.

How To Earn Commissions Online – Types Of Affiliate Products & Rates

There’s many types of affiliate products on the internet. Choosing the right products and services can be a bit of a mine field. One way to discern which products are the best to promote is by looking at the affiliate marketing commission rates.

Most physical affiliate products pay between 3% and 10% commissions. This means you’ll earn $10 for a sale of a $100 item at the most, or $3 at the least. But with digital products you can earn a lot more. Digital products can pay out between 40% and even up to 100% commission in some cases.

A 100% commission product is often part of a product range. So companies can afford to pay this much because the lifetime value of a customer will recoup this loss. Digital products don’t need to be physically posted. This saves a lot of money. Manufacturing costs are low also with digital products.

Once a product is created, it can be sold and re-sold again and again without incurring any more costs. With a physical products, manufacturing costs are much higher because you need to create every product you sell.

Savings made can be passed on to the affiliate marketers who promote the products. Hence why digital products are often better payers than physical ones.

How To Sell Products Online

Earning commissions online happens when you successfully sell other people’s products. To do this does take some time and effort. But once you’ve done it once, you can do it again and again using automation.

This can be done through a sales funnel. A sales funnel is used to collect subscribers information through a landing page. When someone enters their details on a landing page, they enter the funnel.

From here they receive a number of email messages which contain affiliate links. When someone purchases a product from an affiliate link, the affiliate earns a commission based on the sale. See affiliate marketing funnels and done for you affiliate funnel.

The lead magnet which is offered on a landing page should be aligned with the product range within the sales funnel. For example, my ebook lead magnet is “affiliate marketing for beginners“.

The products in my sales funnel are products which help people learn how to earn online such as software and training products.

Step 1 – Set Up Your Sales Funnel

You can set up a done for you affiliate funnel using the SFM digital product range. The SFM program will give you landing pages, products and all the software you’ll need to get started earning online. Once setup, you’ll need to promote your sales funnel.

You can do this via various strategies according to the products you place in your “digital storefront”. With more expensive products you’ll be able to use more expensive marketing strategies. Click the image below to set up your account.

Paid marketing platforms can be very expensive, so you’ll need a high ticket product range in order to use the more expensive platforms which offer more reach and the ability to scale up quickly. Paid marketing is the fastest way to grown an online business. But it’s not the only way. You can also use cheaper and free marketing strategies such as blogging or video marketing. These types of strategies are typically much slower and more time consuming though, but free!

Step 2 – Choose Your Products

Within the SFM back office you’ll be able to choose a product range you can sell through your sales funnel. The more expensive products give you more personal training, and they also give you larger value commissions you can access through sales you make.

Step 3 – Marketing Your Funnel

Once you’ve set up your sales system, you need to send qualified leads to your landing page/s. This is done through marketing and you can choose from a number of marketing strategies.

One of my marketing strategies is blogging. This article is an example of blogging. By creating lots of content around your products and services, and leading your readers into your sales funnel, you can attract customers for your products.

You can also use paid marketing strategies too, video marketing, social media marketing and so on. Things To Resell Online

There’s a number of things to resell online, from physical products to online digital products. You don’t need to own the things to resell online if you use affiliate products. With affiliate marketing you can resell other people’s products for a share of the profit.

Before I found affiliate marketing though, I resold products I would find on eBay. One little strategy lets you find gold nuggets on eBay for far less than they’re worth. Then, resell them on and get a better price for them! Here’s how it works.

Things To Resell Online – eBay Products

This was a clever idea I picked up from an ebook I bought from eBay – the online auction site. Most people have heard of eBay but don’t know this little hack. The general idea is to find cheap items on eBay which don’t get found. This happens when someone lists an item badly, or misspells the title. The title of an item is what gets them found usually when people are searching for the keyword of the item they want to buy.

So when someone misspells an item, it gets far fewer bids than it otherwise would. You can take advantage of this goldmine by using a misspell search tool. Bargainchecker.com, typobay.com, fatfingers.com and goofbid.com are all misspell tools which let you find these kinds of item.

Here’s an example. I just typed iphone 6 into bargainchecker.com and found these results. Often people misspell things like “Iphone”, “Apple”, “Panasonic”, and other brand names. You can even look for things like diamond, jewellery, briefcase or anything you can think of. The larger an item’s value, the more you can potentially save on the price. Use auctions rather than “buy it nows” to find the best deals – (although you can also find bargains using “Buy it now” listings).

Things To Resell Online – eBay Products

Once you’ve found an item, don’t bid on it straight away, since this can alert other bidders to your presence and push up the price. You can put in the initial bid if there’s no other bids on it. At this point the seller is obliged to wait out the auction, rather than correct, or re-list their item.

Then, wait until the end. Don’t get into a bidding war because you want it at a well discounted price. Wait until the end and use a bid sniper tool. Here’s one I use called auctionsniper.com.

This tool lets you pre-set your maximum bid and the tool will bid incrementally up to your maximum in the last few seconds of the auction. This is the best way to get the price you want. If other bidders push the price beyond where you can profit from an item’s sale, leave it alone and avoid the item.

You can even use the advanced search on eBay to see what other items like yours have sold for. Click on the sold listing box and you’ll get an idea what something is worth before going after it.

Re-listing Your Items

Once you have received your item, or collected it, re-list it with a better title, more pictures and of course no spelling mistakes. I successfully used this little strategy for a few months and made a profit on nearly every item I bought. The only one I didn’t profit on I broke even. That was only because the item arrived and looked more tatty than it had in the images. I re-listed with an honest description, whereas the seller I bought from wasn’t so honest!

Ideally, re-list with a low starting bid too, as this draws more people in to bid against each other. But this will also depend on how popular your product is, and how many buyers it might attract.

But it’s still possible to find items and profit from them using eBay. It also gives you a huge choice of things to resell online.

Things To Resell Online – Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is what I found after using the eBay strategy for some time. I knew there had to be a better way to use the internet and automation to make a living online. I was right, but it took me years before I found the best affiliate products to sell online.

If you’ve not heard of affiliate marketing before, it’s basically a strategy which lets you sell other people’s products over the internet by referring people through your own unique affiliate link. (See where to promote affiliate links). Once you join an affiliate program, you can sell any number of affiliate products and earn from between 3% and 100% commissions on sales you generate. See affiliate marketing commission rates.

The best products to resell online are:

Digital products – because they pay the most, (much more than physical products)
High ticket affiliate commissions – commissions of over $1000 per sale!
Recurring commissions – if you sell digital membership and software products you can earn ongoing commissions for each sale you make!
Products which offer multi-tier commissions – reselling high ticket products within a multi tier commission structure means you can earn from sales made by your referrals. See best two tier affiliate programs with recurring commissions.

But with affiliate marketing you can resell pretty much any product you can find online. So long as it has an affiliate program (or partner program) attached to it, you can resell any product that company offers. Amazon and eBay both offer partner programs and allow their affiliates to earn commissions when they refer sales on the sites.

Reselling Products Online

Of course with eBay you simply list your item to resell products online. But with affiliate marketing, it can be a little more involved. Most affiliates resell their products through building an email list of subscribers and then promote their products to their list. They can also attract customers through building websites, writing articles, publishing videos to YouTube and using social media websites to find their target audience.

The goal of an affiliate is to create ongoing sales which happen even when they are not working. It can take some time to achieve this, and the speed with which you can become successful as an affiliate marketing will depend on a few things:

Your choice of products you decide to promote
How you market those products
The time you can spend on your business every day
Your own work ethic and rate of learning

There’s many things to resell online and you can pretty much resell any item you find online either through buying it cheap yourself, or referring customers to it through the affiliate marketing business model.

One of the main keys is to know your target audience. Once you get specific on who a customer is for a specific product, you can work on finding ways to target them with your online advertising efforts.

Many newbie affiliates drop out because they see affiliate marketing in the wrong light. They think it’s a get rich quick scheme and assume it will be easy. It’s not! Affiliate marketing can be a fantastic way to earn an income, but like anything worthwhile, it takes time and effort to reap the rewards.

If you enter into affiliate marketing with the wrong attitude, you’ll probably struggle and quit. But take it seriously, like you would any serious business, and you’ll get a different result.

With any skill, there’s a period of training and study. A pilot wouldn’t attempt to fly a passenger jet without years of experience flying. Nor would a surgeon attempt surgery without many hours of practice and study. But for some reason, people flock to affiliate marketing thinking it’s going to make them rich overnight!

Part of the reason for this is because it’s so easy and cheap to get into it. But the one main thing you should invest in with affiliate marketing is your education. It will serve you for years if you get that right in the first instance, not rush in without any study or experience.

Affiliate marketing is a big industry and there’s many products and strategies you can use to make online sales. But not all strategies or products are equal. When I first started I worked incredibly hard selling products which paid me peanuts! When I started looking to the internet for a means to earn an income, affiliate marketing was still something relatively unknown. Everyone told me to avoid the “get rich quick” schemes as they were all a scam! There were many courses I took which taught all sorts of things. Some taught blogging and other taught niche website building.

Cheat Sheet #3- Sales Funnel & Email List

You should definitely use a sales funnel – an email marketing list with a product range to offer to your subscribers. As someone purchases a product from you, they are offered other related products automatically. With a product range you can earn much more from your email list. With only a single product, you can’t take advantage of the lifetime value of a customer. You only get a single commission from each one, with a single product to sell, and therefore have to continually find new customers.

Having regular customers is key to building a sustainable business online. So subscription products are vital.

Building an email list is the best way to control your traffic. With organic marketing, or paid marketing strategies, you can spend a lot of time and/or money but you don’t get to build a relationship with people. Email marketing lets you do this and over time as your email list grows, your affiliate marketing sales will grow too, if you’re doing it right!

Of course you also need to build your email list, which comes down to marketing, a vital ingredient in the affiliate marketing cheat sheet.

Cheat Sheet #4 – Marketing & Your Funnel

The higher value the products in your marketing funnel, the more you can afford to spend on your marketing budget. This is another very important aspect of the affiliate marketing cheat sheet. If you want an online business fast, you’ll need to invest in the higher value digital products which pay out the most.

That way, you can afford to use paid marketing as your strategy to get more people on your email list. With cheaper affiliate products in your “digital store”, it’s much harder to make a profit while spending money on paid advertising. So, for lower value affiliate products, you’ll often need to use cheaper marketing strategies or even the free ones like blogging or organic video marketing. These strategies are much slower than through using paid marketing.

There’s two distinct disadvantages when it comes to free and cheap marketing strategies: blogging, organic video marketing on YouTube, free social media marketing, etc.:

It is very time consuming creating content and getting it in front of people. You need to stick at it for months or years before you generate the kind of results you can have with paid marketing in a much shorter time frame.
You can’t scale up content marketing like you can with paid marketing. With a paid marketing strategy, you can easily increase your budget once you find a profitable campaign. But with content, you can’t do so as easily.

It’s a legitimate business model which works really well when you get it going. But at first, you’ll have to overcome a lot of difficulties while you understand what works and what doesn’t work for you. Get the help and support you need. Join an online community which offers tools, training and market leaders to learn from so you can model success.
Use a digital product range rather than a single product. Ideally use one with recurring commission products, a high ticket range, built in sales team and multi tier commissions. Use a sales funnel which offers a built in sales team and product range automation. This way, existing customers will automatically be offered other products in a range. Also use an email marketing list, which is the best way to control your traffic.
Choose paid marketing and a high ticket sales funnel. With paid marketing, you can scale more easily and get traction more quickly. With a lower product value, you will need to use cheaper and free marketing tactics which takes much longer and isn’t as easily scaled up.

Affiliate Marketing Commission Rates

Affiliate marketing commission rates vary across the board. Depending on whether you’re promoting digital or physical products, you can expect affiliate marketing commission rates to vary between 3% and even 100%!

Obviously you would think to opt for the 100% commission rate in this case. However, there’s a number of other considerations you might want to think about before making a decision on which products to promote.

Here’s a breakdown of Amazon’s affiliate commission structure for affiliates.

It’s widely known that Amazon’s rates aren’t great, even with their 24 hour cookie. The cookie gives you the opportunity to earn more from your referrals other purchases on the site, within 24 hours.

Should they buy more products within this time frame, (after clicking on your affiliate link), you’ll earn the extra commissions based on those purchases. If they put a product in their shopping cart, but don’t purchase straight away, you’ll still earn the commission if they checkout within 90 days.

Affiliate Marketing Commission Rates – eBay

eBay has a similar commission structure to Amazon. Here’s a breakdown of the commission rates you can earn by referring traffic to eBay:

eBay also offers an incentive credit for referrals to help offset the final value fee. Read more about this here.

Sites like eBay and Amazon are good for selling because there’s quite a lot of trust in these sites. Plus there’s thousands of products on them to choose from so it can be fairly easy to send the right people to products they want. Unfortunately the commissions are fairly low, so you can’t earn very much from a single sale. You need to drive a lot of traffic to make your efforts worthwhile.

Affiliate Marketing Commission Rates – Digital Products

Digital products are available from many affiliate programs and partner networks. You’ll find them on sites like Clickbank, JVZoo, Click2Sell and through independent sellers too.

Digital products typically pay much more in commissions than physical products; typically between 30% and 60% commission. This is because they can be sent automatically over the internet, so there’s no cost to post or handle.

Plus, once the digital products are created once, they can be sold again and again with no manufacturing costs. Physical products incur more costs and although can be easier to sell, they pay out much less to the affiliate. Selling digital products online is simply a matter of advertising (once created). This is why affiliates can earn so much more by promoting digital products, if they can sell them!

Selling digital products can be more tricky for affiliates than selling a physical product. For starters, many digital products are arbitrary products which people don’t know or understand. Plus, vendors (product owners) have less trust online than sites like Amazon and eBay.

But if you’re new to affiliate marketing anyway, you’re going to have a steep learning curve. It’s better to start with a business model and strategy which will give you the most benefits.

Recurring Income Products – Memberships and Software Products

One of the best types of products to promote as an affiliate marketer are recurring commission affiliate programs. With a recurring commission program, you promote something which gives ongoing value. Memberships and subscriptions to products used by online business owners are typically good for affiliates.

If someone purchases a product they will need to build a profitable online business, they’ll continue using that product potentially for life. If you can refer these products to those kinds of people, you’ll have a recurring income from each sale.

Even a small monthly income of $10, for example is great if you’re selling recurring income products. With 10 sales you’ll earn $100 a month passive income. With 100 sales you’ll be able to earn $1000 a month passive. Plus you can keep referring more sales once you’ve learned how to do it once!

High Ticket Digital Products

High ticket digital products give you the best of both worlds: high commissions (40% and above) plus a high price tag. You can earn up to $8000 on a single sale with a $20,000 products and a 40% commission, for example. However, with high ticket affiliate products there’s more investment involved. To earn the highest commission rates on the high ticket products, you’ll need to invest in the product yourself.

In order to earn 100% commission on a product, there’s often a recurring membership fee to join. Or to promote mastermind products and 1 on 1 affiliate marketing coaching and mentoring subscriptions, you’ll need to invest in the products themselves.

Wondering about affiliate marketing funnels? Affiliate marketing funnels are designed to sell affiliate products through an email marketing campaign. When someone visits a website, they’re offered a “freebie” giveaway in exchange for their email address. When they do, they enter the funnel!

From there, follow up emails are sent out. Emails can be automatically sent and/or sent manually. Emails are designed to lead subscribers to products they might be interested in. They also build trust with the subscribers by offering value.

Affiliate Marketing Funnels – The Lead Capture Page

A lead becomes a lead once they subscribe to the list by opting into a form on a website or landing page. But before this happens, the affiliate marketer must get their audience to that particular page. To do this, they might decide on a particular marketing strategy (more on this later).

But once a website visitor signs up to an email list, this time frame is massively extended. Sometimes subscribers can purchase something from a list even years after signing up.

A good affiliate marketing funnel will have multiple products in it. After the subscriber has received the giveaway product/freebie they signed up for, they will likely receive an email promoting the first product in a range of products.The first product in a funnel is usually priced at the lowest value than the other products in a range.

Once a product is purchased, that customer will usually be “segmented” onto another email list. That way, more appropriate and better targeted emails can be sent to customers and leads according to the actions they have taken. For those who have purchased, the next level product can be the focus of the email messages.

Most leads won’t convert into sales within affiliate marketing funnels, and as you go through the funnel, even fewer people will purchase the higher value products still. It lets businesses and individuals outsource work in a variety of skill sets. I’ve used Fiverr for ebook covers, logos, link building and SEO (Search engine optimisation).

You can find all sorts of freelancers on Fiverr. Here’s just a few of the services you’ll find:

Pretty much any kind of online task can be done using an outsourcer from fiverr. So the fiverr affiliate program is a great resource for affiliates to refer all kinds of traffic, whatever your niche. If your audience is a good fit for any of the above services, or any outsourcing task, you can become an affiliate and earn from the fiverr affiliate program.

Fiverr Affiliate Program – Commission Plan

The Fiverr affiliate program offers services in every digital category, according to a variety of business needs. Different commissions are paid according to which category your customers is referred to. Plus, you’ll only get paid by referring traffic to fiverr for first time buyers. If someone already has a fiver account and has bought before, you won’t get a commission should you refer them.

You can see the fiverr commission plan here and you’ll notice a few different payment strategies. Fiverr pays affiliates between $150 at the top “pro services” end, and $15 for other services not listed in their pricing structure breakdown.

Depending on whether you choose the CPA model or hybrid revenue share model will depend on how you acquire customers and what you think is most suitable. More on this later.

As an affiliate, what you need to keep in mind is the type of people on your website and which service is appropriate for you to target. Knowing you target audience is the most important factor here.

It’s not a good idea to promote services which have nothing to do with what your website is about. People won’t choose services they don’t want. So it’s a good idea to focus on the right product for your particular audience. If your website attracts people looking for copywriters, that the kind of service you want to send them to on fiverr. Don’t send them to a logo designer if they’re looking for something else!

Landing Pages Options

Fiverr has multiple landing pages you can drive your website traffic to. Inside the Fiverr affiliate dashboard you’ll find marketing tools and affiliate links to the various pages. This means you can choose landing pages appropriate to your individual website or content. You can even tailor your affiliate links to specific landing pages of certain fiverr members and services.

If you’re a Fiverr member and provide a service on the site, you can even drop affiliate links to your own service. If a new members joins fiverr, you’ll earn an affiliate commission as well as potentially getting a paid gig too!

To send visitors to a specific landing page of your choice, first find the page you want on fiverr. Grab the url of the page you want to link to. Paste it into the box labelled LP URL (landing page url). You’ll find this page on default and deep links (under marketing tools).

Then your affiliate links will point directly to the specific landing page you want. You can do this for specific sellers or even courses you want to promote in the fiverr learn section of the site.

Fiverr Affiliate Program – How Much Can You Earn?

Like any affiliate program, earnings are performance based with the fiverr affiliate program. You only make commissions by referring first time buyers to fiverr. So if your referrals have already subscribed and paid on the platform, you won’t get anything.

You can earn between $150 and $15 depending on which service is bought through your affiliate link. Ideally, focus on sending the right people to products they really want, rather than trying to make the big sale. Most people won’t be interested in the premium service.

You can also earn in other ways through fiverr’s learn courses, their business service and And Co services.

Affiliates earnings will always vary according to how much buyer traffic you send to the site and how many new members subscribe. But there’s a huge potential if you can build your traffic sources up over time.

If you already have a website or traffic source which might be suitable for fiverr, think about they type of people you’re already attracting. What kind of service would they most benefit from and how can you offer this this them?

Fiverr Affiliate Program – General Link

If you’re unsure what services someone might be after on fiverr, you can create a general link to the site. You can create this link in your marketing tools tab in your fiverr affiliates dashboard.

When someone clicks on this link, they’ll be taken to the generic landing page on Fiverr. Whatever service they choose to purchase, if they’re a first time buyer, you’ll get the commission based on the service they choose.

Commission Options – CPA Or Hybrid?

There’s two revenue models you can choose from as a fiverr affiliate. You can choose between CPA (cost per action/acquisition) or a hybrid revenue share. In the hybrid model you’ll receive $10 CPA commission for first-time purchase + 10% revenue share from the order value of every purchase the user will make for 12 months. Whereas in the CPA model you’ll receive between $15 flat commission and $150 commission depending on the purchase.

A single fixed (flat rate) commission is best for you if:

You send your audience to a specific Gig or category.
You’re sure they would only order once and are unlikely to purchase anything else in the Fiverr marketplace.

The hybrid model makes more sense if:

You believe your audience might purchase more services later on.
You can run recurring promotions of different Fiverr services to the same audience, repeatedly.
