Realising that affiliate marketing was better, I quickly change tactics and started promoting other people’s products instead. One of my first online sales was from selling a product called XSite pro. This was a website building software which I managed to sell from a review I had written of it on the free blog site Hubpages.com.

Despite this small early success I wasn’t able to repeat it. I jumped from one course to another all of which taught different tactics. As such, I didn’t get anywhere fast! One week I was building websites attempting to rank on Google. The next week I was learning how to run advertising campaigns on Adwords. There was no continuity in what I was doing and this was, in part, because I was desperately grasping for success!

Desperation brings it’s own set of problems with it. It’s less organised than calmness! Of course I didn’t know I was working against myself at the time and I had little help besides the courses I had bought and the “guru’s” I had trusted.

The “experts” were telling me then how easy it was to make money with affiliate marketing. They sold a lot of courses telling people this of course! The truth simply wouldn’t sell as many courses! Affiliate marketing is tough, especially if you’re going it alone. There’s simply too many strategies and avenues for you to get lost down. You need help; bottom line.

Affiliate Marketers Secrets PDF – Don’t Do It Alone

Yep! Affiliate marketers who succeed don’t do it alone. They get help! Affiliate marketing is tough and especially tough if you’re scouring through video after video trying to do it all for free!

Save yourself some time and get access to an online community of affiliates who are already succeeding. Model success. Modelling success is how anyone succeeds at anything. Of course there are some trail blazers in any field, but you’re much better off with the help and support of an online community.

Since joining a community my affiliate business has taken a massive leap forwards. It still wasn’t plain sailing of course, but knowing your direction and using a system and strategy which is proven gives you massive confidence in what you’re doing.

Belief In What You’re Doing

Affiliate marketing for a newbie is incredibly difficult for a number of reasons. Firstly you’re overwhelmed with information. Secondly all your family and friends are undermining your confidence in what you’re doing! They all say it’s a scam and it’ll never work. As you keep on you’ll experience self doubt and wonder whether it will ever actually work.

Keeping your belief high under these circumstances is very hard. As your belief dwindles, so does your work output. Since affiliates are only paid on a performance basis, no sales equals no commissions. So you enter into a feedback loop at this point. You doubt affiliate marketing works, you don’t do the work and there’s no results/commissions! You wonder why affiliate marketing does not work. But it’s because of your belief, work output and surroundings/ (circle of influence).

You need to create a positive feedback loop which encourages you to move forwards. This is done through taking the right actions, celebrating the small wins (such as a hit on your website, or a lead), and rewarding yourself for the tiny achievements on the journey. If you can join a community of other affiliates who are working towards the same goals, this can also give you some accountability and change your circle of influence.

Choosing A Business Model

There’s many ways to do affiliate marketing and not all affiliate models are alike. When I first started out as an affiliate, I was using the wrong methods and products. I was promoting physical products from eBay and Amazon and earning pocket change when I made any sales. Plus, I would work really hard creating hundreds of websites which never got any traffic.

One of the best business models I’ve found is the SFM Digital Business System. This business model has a variety of products which you can choose to put in your “digital store”. Choose from the following:

Subscription products – memberships which offer recurring income commissions
High ticket products – using high value digital products gives you a much larger commission per sale.

Now, compare this business model to that of Amazon, for example, which will pay you only 3-11% on a sale. Once you’ve referred a sale to an Amazon product, the customer belongs to Amazon too. You don’t get any credit for having passed on the customer after they purchase a product. With a good business model, your initial referral can allow you to earn commissions on later purchases.

Marketing Your Products

Amazon does of course have thousands of products which you can market online for a share of the sale value. However, the small commission level of Amazon products means you’ll struggle to use paid marketing methods and come out with a profit.

As such you’ll mostly have to use free marketing strategies or experiment with very cheap paid strategies and attempt to squeeze out a profit. This is very difficult especially with the massive competition for free marketing strategies such as video and website blogging and using social media accounts.

One of the other benefits of using a high ticket product range is marketing. With a high ticket product range it’s much easier to run paid marketing and come out with a profitable business model. For example lets use the comparison between a $1000 product and $100 product which each pay out 40% commission ($40 per sale).

With $400 commission, you can afford to test a few adverts and even spend up to your $400 to break even. Then, you can tweak your advertising to get the cost down and come out with a profit. With the $40 commission, you only have $40 to spend before you’re at a loss. So there’s much less room for experimentation and testing of paid marketing.

Scaling Up And Becoming Profitable

With a business model which only gives you a $40 commission for each sale, it’s much harder to expand your business and scale up. As we’ve just seen, it’s difficult to run paid marketing and come out on top. So you’re generally stuck with cheap or free marketing strategies with low value items. Free marketing is slow and unpredictable too, so you’re in it for the long haul with this strategy.

With high ticket affiliate programs though, it’s different. With a mastermind program which sells for $20,000, for example, affiliates can earn $8000 per sale using the SFM digital business system (if they invest in the product themselves).

This means they can afford to spend a lot more on paid marketing given their potential return on investment. Once they find a working strategy too, they can run it automatically and start increasing their budget too, once their campaign is proven to be profitable.

You might think that it’s a lot easier to sell a $100 product than a $20,000 one and you’d be right. But consider how many $100 products you’d need to sell to make the same $8000 as selling just one mastermind experience course. You’d need to sell 200 of the $100 items in order to make the same as just one of the $20k products.

So, although it may be more difficult selling the larger valued item, it’s not 200 times more difficult. In fact many of the same strategies are used to sell both items. Except that with the larger value item you can afford to use paid marketing more effectively and this means it’s also easier to scale up and automate your business.

Choosing Your Marketing Strategy

As you can see, certain business models lend themselves more to paid marketing strategies which are faster and more scalable than the free ones. But it really will depend on your product range and how you want to proceed with a marketing strategy.

With a lower value product range you’ll likely need to use free strategies. Ideally choose products which at least offer recurring income commissions. I’m a keen blogger and this article is an example of a piece of content. Blogging is a long term strategy however. If you have the time and passion for blogging, it’s a great cheap strategy. But others prefer uploading YouTube videos or using social media accounts to build an audience.

If you want to build an online business in the quickest possible time, you’ll need to invest in a product range and use paid marketing. Otherwise, it’s a longer term process if you want to do things more cheaply.

Is Blogging Profitable?

So, is blogging profitable? And if so, how do you make it profitable? How long does it take to become profitable as a blogger? All these questions are hard to answer since almost anyone can build a blog from anywhere in the world. Will they all become profitable? Most definitely the answer is a resounding no. But what’s the difference between those who create profitable blogs and those who don’t?

A profitable blog makes money; more money than is spent, too. To make a blog profitable you need to monetise it some how. Many bloggers monetise with advertising such as the Google Adsense program. Others use affiliate marketing. However you monetise your blog, you’ll need traffic to make your monetisation method pay. So the two main “musts” with a blog are monetisation and traffic. But that’s not the full story either.

Is Blogging Profitable?

Blogging can be very profitable yes. Some bloggers make 6 figures through their blogging efforts. But that’s undoubtedly a minority. The vast majority will struggle, or do it just for fun! Unless you’re committed to your blog, you’ll probably make nothing or very little.

You’ll need traffic and some monetisation method to make money from a blog. Without either of these it’s dead in the water. Most bloggers will use affiliate products or advertising to monetise their blogs. Or, they’ll use a combination of both. To get traffic to a blog means creating content and getting eyes on it. Ultimately a blogger wants Google to recognise their content and show it on the free search engines at the top of the page. If this happens, traffic will come! But it’s a big “if” rather than a “when”.

Before Google starts ranking your content it needs to see you and it needs data! Google has thousands of ranking data “points” on which to judge your blog content. If there’s a better blog post for the same topic, it’ll favour that instead of yours. Or another, similar post might have thousands of back links or is from an older, more authority site. There might be thousands of blog posts just like yours too; so depending on your topic, you may have little chance of getting even a look-in with the search engines.

Is Blogging Profitable? Monetisation Methods – Adsense

With Google Adsense, a blogger can place a piece of code on their content. Google turns that code into a specific advert which is appropriate for your specific content. For example, say your blog is about handy crafts. Google will show your visitors adverts relating to that particular topic. When someone clicks on your advert, you’ll make a small commission.

This is usually only tiny amounts: less than a $1. But this will depend on your blog topic. More competitive topics will usually have more expensive advertisements. So if an advertiser pays $10 per click, you might earn $4. If they pay $1 per click, you’ll earn only a few cents.

Unfortunately the more expensive topics are usually well over prescribed already. This means you’ll have a tough time getting your content ranking or seen easily. Less competitive topics usually have lower advertising costs associated with them. A site about Forex marketing for example will be hard to rank for with a blog. But it will pay a larger amount for an advertising click than a site about mushroom harvesting, for example.

Whatever topic you choose, rest assured you’ll need a huge volume of traffic in order to make a good monthly revenue from your blog. More expensive advertising is much more competitive in terms of search traffic. Less expensive topics will give you more scope for getting free traffic but less revenue per click.

Blogging With Affiliate Marketing

Most bloggers will use affiliate marketing on their blogs to monetise. Affiliate marketing lets bloggers promote other people’s products for a share of the revenue. With an affiliate blog you can make a lot more than you could with Google Adsense. But it depends on how you go about it. Some blogs are intended for monetisation with Google Adsense. Others are made for affiliate marketing. Of course you can use both strategies side by side.

Affiliates will promote products and services which match their particular blog topic. For example if you owned a travel blog, you might advertise hotels, taxi services or travel related purchases. If your blog was about gadgets, you could link your blog to gadgets from Amazon, for example.

Affiliate marketing can be profitable when used in conjunction with a blog. However, it again will depend on the volume of traffic you can attract and the particular type of visitors you attract.

Is Blogging Profitable – Type Of Traffic & Email List

With a Google Adsense blog your topic isn’t that important (more on this later). Google will attempt to monetise your adverts for any given topic you choose to write about. But with an affiliate product, your topic is going to attract a certain type of visitor. Ideally you want every visitor to purchase an affiliate product from your site! But in reality that isn’t going to happen. Only something like 1% of your visitors will ever buy something from your site. But you can increase this percentage in a number of ways. The main two strategies are:

Write content which attracts your specific customer “avatar” – the perfect type of person who not only likes what you’re selling but desperately needs it.
Encourage your blog visitors to opt in to your email list – once on your email list you can follow up with subscribers and build a longer term relationship.

With the right kind of traffic and a hugely enticing sign-in offer, you can get more of your visitors to join your mailing list. From there you can build relationships and extend the time period with which someone might make a purchasing decision. On a blog, someone only has a few minute to buy something. Once you’ve got their email you can sell something even years later to this same blog visitor.

Blogging & You – Choice Of Topic

Although your blog topic isn’t that important as far as Google Adsense is concerned, it’s vitally important if you want to succeed (and be profitable). Having made the mistake of blogging in a topic I knew nothing of, I realised how difficult this can be. If you at least have an interest in a topic, it makes much more sense to choose that topic over one you think might be profitable.

Choosing a topic because you think it might be profitable is a big mistake when it comes to blogging for profit! I know that sounds ridiculous! The reason is because it takes a huge amount of time and commitment to make a blog profitable. Expect to be blogging for several months before you start to see any results at all! Imagine blogging every day for several months about something you absolutely hate – or have zero interest in!

Having worked for an airport parking company I was writing about airports and parking for 6 months straight! Despite looking for the most interesting bits about the subject, I was super miserable and had had enough! I also built a blog around the mushroom harvesting topic – which I knew nothing of. I had to research every post I wrote. Eventually I gave up having made next to nothing from it. Choose a topic you love (or have a passion for) and you can keep going long enough to make it profitable. Without the passion, it’s much harder.

What you have to invest financially – you can spend nothing on your training and product range with affiliate marketing. But you get out what you put in! If you’re going the cheap route, look for the most lucrative affiliate programs you can find without an investment. Typically though, free programs offer lower commissions.
The time you have available for marketing efforts – if you’re working full time, you won’t have time to create content. You’ll need to invest in paid marketing. This means you’ll also need high value products in order to make your business profitable.

Marketing a high value product range can be done much more quickly via paid marketing. With a lower value product range you’ll need to look for cheaper marketing strategies such as video marketing and blogging. These strategies are much slower and take a lot more effort.

Step 5. Test and Measure – Learn From Your Efforts

Affiliate marketing takes time and you’ll only know what works and what doesn’t from the marketing efforts and strategies you use. Over time, and through tracking your sales you’ll come to learn which is the best use of your time. If you’re running paid marketing strategies your data can show you this quite quickly; especially if you have a large marketing budget. With content marketing though it’s a much slower process.

As a content marketer, expect to work much longer before you see the results from your efforts. With paid marketing and a large budget, you can obtain the data very quickly and scale up the campaigns which are profitable. Like any professional, you should aim to keep learning and improving with your affiliate marketing business. This means developing yourself continually. Doctors, lawyers and other professionals are continually held accountable by their professional bodies and so have to keep their standards high. Affiliate marketing professionals are always learning and developing themselves and their businesses too.

Don’t mistake affiliate marketing with some “easy” win which takes no effort. Affiliate marketers can earn some amazing salaries but usually only after a lot of time and effort has gone in to their training and development.

Most Lucrative Affiliate Programs

Even the most lucrative affiliate programs won’t make you any money unless you sell the product. For beginner affiliates this can be especially hard. Struggling and not making sales is a common problem even with the best affiliate program you can find. But lets come back to the actual selling later. There’s a few strategies which the most lucrative affiliate programs share.

For starters look at the various commission structures which are paid to affiliates throughout the industry. Take a look at Amazon, for example. They pay only 1-11% commissions on their products. Most affiliates know this isn’t great. A low commission structure not only means a small payout, it also limits your marketing strategies.

Most Lucrative Affiliate Programs – Digital

Digital products offer the most lucrative affiliate programs for a couple of reasons. They tend to pay out more than physical products – from 40%-100%. Digital products can do this because they’re not paying delivery or manufacturing costs. Once a product is made, it can be sold again and again. With physical products there’s more constraints: postage, handling, manufacturing etc.

But not all digital products are alike either. Some are “throwaway” courses which offer limited value. Clickbank is a favourite with many new affiliate marketers but Clickbank products often only lie in the $100 price range. Although this can be good with a high profit of 40%+, there’s other considerations with the most lucrative affiliate programs. Lifetime value of the product is one consideration.

If you’re only making a standard commission, that really doesn’t matter to you much. But if you can earn recurring commissions on subscriptions and membership products, it’s far more important.

Most Lucrative Affiliate Programs – Recurring Commissions

Recurring commissions are a huge key to making affiliate marketing pay. With only a few recurring commissions you can make far more than even with the highest value products (more on this later). Clickbank does offer products with recurring income. You’re better off choosing these kinds of products too. Why would you spend lots of time and energy only to make a single commission? Especially when a similar effort can make you a recurring income.

The best recurring income products to choose are those which offer huge value. Ideally choose products you would use yourself too and which offer a lifetime value to their customers. Online business tools are a good idea because successful businesses require software products which help them operate. Here’s a few online business tools which offer recurring income:

Most Lucrative Affiliate Programs – High Ticket Products

High ticket products are obviously included in this list of most lucrative affiliate programs. A high ticket product is one with a large price tag – ideally over $500. With a $100 digital products you can earn $40 on a sale. But with a $1000 product you can earn $400 with the same level of commission. You might believe that it’s going to be much more difficult selling a high ticket products however. But remember that you have a global audience with digital products. The difference in work involved compared to profit will be minimal.

For the same profit, you would need to sell ten times that of the lower value product. It’s not ten times more difficult to sell a high ticket item online. Keeping in mind the earlier level of commissions comparing digital and physical products, it makes sense to also use digital products. However, there are physical products you can sell which are high ticket. Take a look at Hammacher Schlemmer. Some of their physical products value up to $190,000 and you can earn an 8% commission on that if you make the sale.

Types Of Product & Market

But not everyone is in the market for a $190,000 flying hovercraft! I’d love one of them myself but sadly don’t have that kind of budget! The market for this kind of toy is smaller than for some other kinds of high ticket items. One of the biggest markets is for online business mentorship and training. There’s many more people who would pay to learn how to earn online and how to build a profitable business of their own.

If you consider the number of people hating their jobs and looking for an alternative, and compare this number with those looking for a flying hovercraft (or similar toy), there’s a huge difference. Online business mentorship is a growing industry too, which is why it can be one of the most lucrative niches online.

Multi-tier Sales

A multi-tier affiliate program offers to pay affiliates for the sales made by their referrals. This means as you bring people into a program, you can earn income based on their success. How you decide to market your business will depend on your business system. With a low paying physical product from the likes of Amazon, for example, you’ll be severely limited to the marketing strategies you can employ. Paid marketing is much faster and much more scalable. So if you want an online business to be profitable quickly, expect to spent a lot of money initially. If, on the other hand you can’t afford the high value digital products, you may have to work a different strategy with your marketing.

To sum up the most lucrative affiliate programs offer one or all of the following:

Digital products – which pay more commission (Usually 40% compared to 3-11% for physical products)
Recurring income products – such as memberships, software and subscriptions. Recurring commissions may be small but they add up and give you an income rather than just a single “one-off” commission.
High ticket items – don’t go for cheap items because you’ll need to sell in hug quantities. Instead pick high value items and your efforts will go further in terms of income
Multi-tier sales – a multi-tier sale gives you a commission based on your referrals’ success promoting products from a range.

Firstly let’s look at a bad business model. Amazon is a place many newbie affiliate marketers start out. Why not? There’s a tonne of product to choose from and lots of possibility to build a niche in almost any area right? But, Amazon only pays affiliates somewhere between 3% and 11% commissions. So if you spend months building a niche website, for example, and it actually works and gets traffic, you’ll still only be earning peanuts from it.

Digital products on the other hand pay much more in terms of commission. In fact most digital products pay affiliates 40%-even 100% commission in some cases. So, if you’re going to work hard, it’s worth working smart too. There’s also high ticket products you should consider too. High ticket items can make you commissions of $1000+ on a single sale.

Why High Ticket Products?

Why use high ticket products? Take a low value physical product for example. Let’s assume you’re selling an item from Amazon and you make a $10 commission based on a $100 price, or 10%. To make $10,000 worth of commissions you’ll need to sell 1000 items.

The equivalent high ticket digital product might be valued at $2500 and give you a 40% commission of $1000. To make $10,000 you’ll need to sell only 10 of these items. Now consider how you’re going to sell 1000 items from Amazon or 10 items of your high ticket digital product.

However you go about it, selling the higher value item makes much more sense. It may be more difficult to sell such an item, but will it be 100 times as difficult? Of course the answer is a resounding no!

High ticket products aren’t the only key which super affiliates use. They also use products which offer recurring commissions.

Recurring Commissions – A Key To Passive Income

High ticket commissions are all well and good. They can help you to achieve a larger income online and offset marketing costs so you can use paid marketing platforms. But recurring commissions are another major key which super affiliates use to make an income online. Recurring commission affiliate programs offer software products and memberships which pay affiliates again and again.

Like using high ticket products, recurring commission products give you an advantage which you don’t get from “one-off” sales. Even a small recurring commission is far better than a single sale over time. A recurring commission can give you a lifetime income. Even a high ticket commission is finite. A recurring commission can go on paying you over decades with the right products.

Multi-tier Affiliate Commissions

Multi-tier affiliate commissions are available on certain products. They are commissions you can earn from sales made by your referrals. Organic sales online are a wonderful thing when it finally happens. Those affiliate commissions rolling in overnight are simply wonderful. But there’s a lot that goes in before hand which goes unrewarded for a long time. There’s two questions you should ask yourself before creating content for your affiliate products:

Is this person a hungry buyer?
Can I get this content in front of those people?

When the answer is yes to both these questions it’s well worth pursuing. If you’re in doubt, save yourself the time and look for two “yes’s”! Ultimately this comes down to an important part of affiliate marketing – the customer avatar!

With content marketing you’ll likely create a lot of content which doesn’t work. Some will hit and some will miss. But as you learn and get better, you’ll want to focus your efforts on the content which gets sales. That content will work because it’s targeted a specific kind of person and got found.

The customer avatar is an important part of affiliate marketing. The better you get as an affiliate, the more you’ll focus in on your customer:

Who they are
What they want
Their individual problems and challenges
What they’re searching for online
The kinds of videos and blogs they read
How old they are
Are they a parent?
What interests them
What pains them?
And on an on..

The Email List

Whatever kind of marketing you’re doing, build an email list. With an email list you get people to subscribe and opt in to your list. You can then drip feed emails on a regular basis and keep in touch with your subscriber. This has two huge benefits over just having a website to sell affiliate products from:

You can extend the period of time over which a customer can buy from you – from 10 minutes on a website to months and even years through email marketing
You’ll be able to build trust with many subscribers by offering real value

One people know, like and trust you, they are much more likely to purchase a product from you.

Paid marketing is the fastest route to building a sustainable income online. But you’ll need a great business model like the one discussed earlier in this pdf/ebook. The money online niche is well subscribed by a lot of affiliates. But is affiliate marketing oversaturated in this niche? Of course the answer to this all depends on your marketing strategy.

If you want to build a website around the money making online niche, don’t expect to quickly rank a website for this keyword or any like it. It’s near impossible to do so. But there’s other strategies you can apply to biz opp affiliate programs, especially if they offer a good compensation plan.

Biz Opp Affiliate Programs – The Six Figure Funnel

Having a great business model with an affiliate program is worth its weight in gold. This is for a number of reasons. If, for example you’re selling a single product for a $100 commission, you’ll need to sell a lot of them to replace an existing income.

The site was built around the keywords “autopilot money making software”, which has lower competition on Google than say “money making online”, for example.

This can take some time of course but a good place to start is with Google’s keyword planner. Find long tail keywords with low SEO difficulty; (less competition than others). Then create a micro niche affiliate website which targets the main keywords which are less competitive than the others. This website is an example of a micro niche affiliate site in the biz opp affiliate marketing niche. As you can see, this site has been built around the keywords “affiliate marketing mentors“.
