It’s worth getting an affiliate marketing consultant for a number of reasons. Firstly, there’s a huge drop out rate with affiliate marketing. In part, that’s because the barriers to entry are stupidly low. Anyone with a laptop and internet connection can become an affiliate. There’s very little cost involved and no physical premises needed. Plus, you don’t need your own products or services to start selling, as an affiliate.
So it’s an attractive proposition to earn money through selling other people’s products online. But there’s some major drawbacks to this ease of entry. Most affiliates who start have no clue what they’re doing. I was the same when I started back in the early 2000’s. I made a tonne of mistakes as a beginner and started off down many routes which led me nowhere!

Affiliate marketing is a big industry and there’s many products and strategies you can use to make online sales. But not all strategies or products are equal. When I first started I worked incredibly hard selling products which paid me peanuts! I didn’t know which were the best kinds of products to sell, nor which were the best marketing strategies I could use.
So I spent years struggling simply because I didn’t get the right knowledge upfront! In this affiliate marketing cheat sheet, I’ll share some of the most important realisations I’ve had over the last several years as an affiliate.
Affiliate Marketing Cheat Sheet #1 – Get Help & Model Success
When I started looking to the internet for a means to earn an income, affiliate marketing was still something relatively unknown. Everyone told me to avoid the “get rich quick” schemes as they were all a scam! There were many courses I took which taught all sorts of things. Some taught blogging and other taught niche website building.
But each course taught something different. By the time I was a year or so into my affiliate marketing journey, I was already burned out, disillusioned and confused. I had tried so many different approaches and yet still struggled to make a consistent income from the internet.
Several years in, I discovered an online mentorship community. It’s basically an all in one internet business system and training resource. You can follow other leaders in the industry, copy what they have done, and ask them questions. Affiliate Marketing Cheat Sheet #2 – Products (Use A Range Of Products)

For years I struggled as an affiliate marketer. I promoted products from Amazon and eBay, and although the products sell well and the websites are deemed trustworthy to most people, it’s not great for affiliates. That’s because the affiliate marketing commission rates on these platforms are so low. With both Amazon and eBay, you can expect to earn between 3% and 11% on a sale you have referred to the site.
On low value physical products, like the ones I used to promote, commissions can be less than $1 per sale! The same amount of effort went in to selling a high ticket product and earning a commission of $1000 shortly after joining The SFM Mentors.
Smart Affiliate Marketing – Affiliate Marketing The Smart Way
When you also start selling recurring commission affiliate products, you’ll realise that’s the way to do affiliate marketing the smart way. With recurring commissions, you sell a product once and earn commissions continually month after month. Over time, as you sell more memberships and subscription products, your income grows. It’s one of the fastest ways to earn a regular income from affiliate marketing. If you do nothing else I recommend in the affiliate marketing cheat sheet, use recurring commission products.
Ideally use a strategy which also gives you:
High ticket digital products – digital products pay out 40% + commissions (compared to 3-11% for physical products)
You should definitely use a sales funnel – an email marketing list with a product range to offer to your subscribers. As someone purchases a product from you, they are offered other related products automatically. With a product range you can earn much more from your email list. With only a single product, you can’t take advantage of the lifetime value of a customer. You only get a single commission from each one, with a single product to sell, and therefore have to continually find new customers.
Having regular customers is key to building a sustainable business online. So subscription products are vital.
Building an email list is the best way to control your traffic. With organic marketing, or paid marketing strategies, you can spend a lot of time and/or money but you don’t get to build a relationship with people. Email marketing lets you do this and over time as your email list grows, your affiliate marketing sales will grow too, if you’re doing it right!
Of course you also need to build your email list, which comes down to marketing, a vital ingredient in the affiliate marketing cheat sheet.
Cheat Sheet #4 – Marketing & Your Funnel
The higher value the products in your marketing funnel, the more you can afford to spend on your marketing budget. This is another very important aspect of the affiliate marketing cheat sheet. If you want an online business fast, you’ll need to invest in the higher value digital products which pay out the most.
That way, you can afford to use paid marketing as your strategy to get more people on your email list. With cheaper affiliate products in your “digital store”, it’s much harder to make a profit while spending money on paid advertising. So, for lower value affiliate products, you’ll often need to use cheaper marketing strategies or even the free ones like blogging or organic video marketing. These strategies are much slower than through using paid marketing.
There’s two distinct disadvantages when it comes to free and cheap marketing strategies: blogging, organic video marketing on YouTube, free social media marketing, etc.:
It is very time consuming creating content and getting it in front of people. You need to stick at it for months or years before you generate the kind of results you can have with paid marketing in a much shorter time frame.
You can’t scale up content marketing like you can with paid marketing. With a paid marketing strategy, you can easily increase your budget once you find a profitable campaign. But with content, you can’t do so as easily.

So that’s my affiliate marketing cheat sheet for faster and longer lasting affiliate marketing results. Affiliate marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. It’s a legitimate business model which works really well when you get it going. But at first, you’ll have to overcome a lot of difficulties while you understand what works and what doesn’t work for you. Get the help and support you need. Join an online community which offers tools, training and market leaders to learn from so you can model success.
Use a digital product range rather than a single product. Ideally use one with recurring commission products, a high ticket range, built in sales team and multi tier commissions. Use a sales funnel which offers a built in sales team and product range automation. This way, existing customers will automatically be offered other products in a range. Also use an email marketing list, which is the best way to control your traffic.
Choose paid marketing and a high ticket sales funnel. With paid marketing, you can scale more easily and get traction more quickly. With a lower product value, you will need to use cheaper and free marketing tactics which takes much longer and isn’t as easily scaled up.

Affiliate marketing commission rates vary across the board. Depending on whether you’re promoting digital or physical products, you can expect affiliate marketing commission rates to vary between 3% and even 100%!
Obviously you would think to opt for the 100% commission rate in this case. However, there’s a number of other considerations you might want to think about before making a decision on which products to promote.
Here’s a breakdown of Amazon’s affiliate commission structure for affiliates.
It’s widely known that Amazon’s rates aren’t great, even with their 24 hour cookie. The cookie gives you the opportunity to earn more from your referrals other purchases on the site, within 24 hours.
Should they buy more products within this time frame, (after clicking on your affiliate link), you’ll earn the extra commissions based on those purchases. If they put a product in their shopping cart, but don’t purchase straight away, you’ll still earn the commission if they checkout within 90 days.
Affiliate Marketing Commission Rates – eBay
eBay has a similar commission structure to Amazon. Here’s a breakdown of the commission rates you can earn by referring traffic to eBay:
eBay also offers an incentive credit for referrals to help offset the final value fee. Read more about this here.
Sites like eBay and Amazon are good for selling because there’s quite a lot of trust in these sites. Plus there’s thousands of products on them to choose from so it can be fairly easy to send the right people to products they want. Unfortunately the commissions are fairly low, so you can’t earn very much from a single sale. You need to drive a lot of traffic to make your efforts worthwhile.
Affiliate Marketing Commission Rates – Digital Products
Digital products are available from many affiliate programs and partner networks. You’ll find them on sites like Clickbank, JVZoo, Click2Sell and through independent sellers too.
Digital products typically pay much more in commissions than physical products; typically between 30% and 60% commission. This is because they can be sent automatically over the internet, so there’s no cost to post or handle.
Plus, once the digital products are created once, they can be sold again and again with no manufacturing costs. Physical products incur more costs and although can be easier to sell, they pay out much less to the affiliate. Selling digital products online is simply a matter of advertising (once created). This is why affiliates can earn so much more by promoting digital products, if they can sell them!
Selling digital products can be more tricky for affiliates than selling a physical product. For starters, many digital products are arbitrary products which people don’t know or understand. Plus, vendors (product owners) have less trust online than sites like Amazon and eBay.
But if you’re new to affiliate marketing anyway, you’re going to have a steep learning curve. It’s better to start with a business model and strategy which will give you the most benefits.
Recurring Income Products – Memberships and Software Products
One of the best types of products to promote as an affiliate marketer are recurring commission affiliate programs. With a recurring commission program, you promote something which gives ongoing value. Memberships and subscriptions to products used by online business owners are typically good for affiliates.
If someone purchases a product they will need to build a profitable online business, they’ll continue using that product potentially for life. If you can refer these products to those kinds of people, you’ll have a recurring income from each sale.
Using recurring commission affiliate programs makes your job easier in the long run
Even a small monthly income of $10, for example is great if you’re selling recurring income products. With 10 sales you’ll earn $100 a month passive income. With 100 sales you’ll be able to earn $1000 a month passive. Plus you can keep referring more sales once you’ve learned how to do it once!
Clickbank offers products which carry recurring income. You can find these using a strategy I share in the article Clickbank passive income.
High Ticket Digital Products
High ticket digital products give you the best of both worlds: high commissions (40% and above) plus a high price tag. You can earn up to $8000 on a single sale with a $20,000 products and a 40% commission, for example. However, with high ticket affiliate products there’s more investment involved. To earn the highest commission rates on the high ticket products, you’ll need to invest in the product yourself.
In order to earn 100% commission on a product, there’s often a recurring membership fee to join. Or to promote mastermind products and 1 on 1 affiliate marketing coaching and mentoring subscriptions, you’ll need to invest in the products themselves.
Affiliate Marketing Commission rates as an SFM DEA Reseller.

Marketing Your Sales Funnel – Free + Cheap Strategies
With this sales funnel you have multiple products to sell and earn from. By using high ticket products and recurring commissions, your chances of success are multiplied. Compared to selling only a single product, it’s far easier to earn a regular income with such a funnel.
To promote your funnel with free strategies however, will take much longer than by using paid marketing. Blogging, organic video marketing and social media tactics which are free are also time consuming. If you don’t have the time or patience for these kinds of strategies, you’re better off positioning yourself at the top tier of the SFM digital business system and using paid marketing.
By positioning yourself at the top tier of the SFM digital business system, you can take advantage of the largest levels of commission on all products. You’ll also be able to access the two tier commissions based off the sales made by your members. This means for every member they refer, you’ll earn $10 a month, and 10% of the high ticket products they sell.
DEA Partner Commission Structure
At this level, paid advertising is much more affordable because of the return on investment you can achieve through selling the product range.
This is probably the fastest way to build an online business, give the marketing budget and investment in the high ticket product range. Wondering about affiliate marketing funnels? Affiliate marketing funnels are designed to sell affiliate products through an email marketing campaign. When someone visits a website, they’re offered a “freebie” giveaway in exchange for their email address. When they do, they enter the funnel!
From there, follow up emails are sent out. Emails can be automatically sent and/or sent manually. Emails are designed to lead subscribers to products they might be interested in. They also build trust with the subscribers by offering value.
Affiliate Marketing Funnels – The Lead Capture Page
A lead becomes a lead once they subscribe to the list by opting into a form on a website or landing page. But before this happens, the affiliate marketer must get their audience to that particular page. To do this, they might decide on a particular marketing strategy (more on this later).
Affiliates can attract people to their website, where they can place an opt-in form. Or, they can design a specific page for opt in purposes only (a lead capture page). Here’s an example of a lead capture page:
Lead capture pages are much better at collecting leads than websites. With a website, there’s all sorts of distractions for the visitor. A website visitor can browse around. They can look at various articles and posts. On a lead capture page, there’s only 2 options for the visitor: sign up for the freebie, or leave the page.
Affiliate Marketing Funnels – Getting People To The Lead Capture Page
Before someone lands on an affiliate website or a lead capture page, they must have a reason for going there. It’s the affiliate marketer job to promote their website and landing pages and get people onto their email list. They can do this through a number of different strategies. These could be content creation, paid marketing, link building, SEO (search engine optimisation), social media marketing, and so on.
Many affiliates use paid marketing to send targeted visitors to their landing pages. Paid marketing is the best strategy in many ways because it allows the affiliates to focus on automating the sales process and scaling up their business more quickly.
Slower marketing strategies are those such as blogging, organic video marketing and SEO. It can take much longer to generate revenue from affiliate marketing funnels with organic marketing.
Paid marketing is fast, reliable and also scalable. Although in the first instance it can take some testing and measuring of paid marketing to determine the right target audience and target them using any given marketing platform: Google Adwords, Bing, Facebook, YouTube etc. How To Know Your Target Market.
Affiliate Marketing Funnels – Entering The Funnel – Email Marketing
Affiliate marketing funnels use email marketing to sell products to subscribers. Once signed up, the subscriber will receive an email, usually linking to some free resource. This can be part of appeal to opt in – the lead magnet. Giving away some valuable resource is the strategy affiliates use to entice the subscribers to opt in. Once they are opted it to the list, emails are automated to follow up over a predetermined time frame.
Emails can entertain, inform and build relationships with the subscribers. But they are most of all used to promote affiliate products and services which will be of interest.
On a website, a visitor only has around 10 minutes to sell something. After that time, most visitors will have left. Most of them without taking any action to purchase anything. But once a website visitor signs up to an email list, this time frame is massively extended. Sometimes subscribers can purchase something from a list even years after signing up.
Affiliate Marketing Funnels – Products
A good affiliate marketing funnel will have multiple products in it. After the subscriber has received the giveaway product/freebie they signed up for, they will likely receive an email promoting the first product in a range of products.The first product in a funnel is usually priced at the lowest value than the other products in a range.
Once a product is purchased, that customer will usually be “segmented” onto another email list. That way, more appropriate and better targeted emails can be sent to customers and leads according to the actions they have taken. For those who have purchased, the next level product can be the focus of the email messages.
This continues as they purchase more and more expensive products the further down the funnel they travel. A good funnel for affiliate marketers to use will include:
Most leads won’t convert into sales within affiliate marketing funnels, and as you go through the funnel, even fewer people will purchase the higher value products still. But with a product range which offers the above strategy, and a good marketing strategy targeting the right kinds of leads, you should make sales as your leads go through the affiliate marketing funnel.
With a range of digital products which offer huge value, some leads will purchase those particular products. Of those customers, some will go on to purchase the higher level products and spend more with you.
Attrition and Membership Products
With membership products you can earn ongoing income from affiliate marketing funnels. So it’s a good idea to use membership type products if you’re going to become an affiliate.
Some of your members will drop out over time. But many of them will stay and with good products they can become loyal customers for a lifetime. This means you can earn lifetime commissionsif you find the right products for the right customers.

Pretty much any kind of online task can be done using an outsourcer from fiverr. So the fiverr affiliate program is a great resource for affiliates to refer all kinds of traffic, whatever your niche. If your audience is a good fit for any of the above services, or any outsourcing task, you can become an affiliate and earn from the fiverr affiliate program.
Fiverr Affiliate Program – Commission Plan
The Fiverr affiliate program offers services in every digital category, according to a variety of business needs. Different commissions are paid according to which category your customers is referred to. Plus, you’ll only get paid by referring traffic to fiverr for first time buyers. If someone already has a fiver account and has bought before, you won’t get a commission should you refer them.
You can see the fiverr commission plan here and you’ll notice a few different payment strategies. Fiverr pays affiliates between $150 at the top “pro services” end, and $15 for other services not listed in their pricing structure breakdown.
Depending on whether you choose the CPA model or hybrid revenue share model will depend on how you acquire customers and what you think is most suitable. More on this later.
As an affiliate, what you need to keep in mind is the type of people on your website and which service is appropriate for you to target. Knowing you target audience is the most important factor here.
It’s not a good idea to promote services which have nothing to do with what your website is about. People won’t choose services they don’t want. So it’s a good idea to focus on the right product for your particular audience. If your website attracts people looking for copywriters, that the kind of service you want to send them to on fiverr. Don’t send them to a logo designer if they’re looking for something else!
Landing Pages Options
Fiverr has multiple landing pages you can drive your website traffic to. Inside the Fiverr affiliate dashboard you’ll find marketing tools and affiliate links to the various pages. This means you can choose landing pages appropriate to your individual website or content. You can even tailor your affiliate links to specific landing pages of certain fiverr members and services.
If you’re a Fiverr member and provide a service on the site, you can even drop affiliate links to your own service. If a new members joins fiverr, you’ll earn an affiliate commission as well as potentially getting a paid gig too!
To send visitors to a specific landing page of your choice, first find the page you want on fiverr. Grab the url of the page you want to link to. Paste it into the box labelled LP URL (landing page url). You’ll find this page on default and deep links (under marketing tools).
Then your affiliate links will point directly to the specific landing page you want. You can do this for specific sellers or even courses you want to promote in the fiverr learn section of the site.

Fiverr Affiliate Program – How Much Can You Earn?
Like any affiliate program, earnings are performance based with the fiverr affiliate program. You only make commissions by referring first time buyers to fiverr. So if your referrals have already subscribed and paid on the platform, you won’t get anything.
You can earn between $150 and $15 depending on which service is bought through your affiliate link. Ideally, focus on sending the right people to products they really want, rather than trying to make the big sale. Most people won’t be interested in the premium service.
Affiliates earnings will always vary according to how much buyer traffic you send to the site and how many new members subscribe. But there’s a huge potential if you can build your traffic sources up over time.
If you already have a website or traffic source which might be suitable for fiverr, think about they type of people you’re already attracting. What kind of service would they most benefit from and how can you offer this this them?
Fiverr Affiliate Program – General Link
If you’re unsure what services someone might be after on fiverr, you can create a general link to the site. You can create this link in your marketing tools tab in your fiverr affiliates dashboard.
When someone clicks on this link, they’ll be taken to the generic landing page on Fiverr. Whatever service they choose to purchase, if they’re a first time buyer, you’ll get the commission based on the service they choose.
Commission Options – CPA Or Hybrid?
There’s two revenue models you can choose from as a fiverr affiliate. You can choose between CPA (cost per action/acquisition) or a hybrid revenue share. In the hybrid model you’ll receive $10 CPA commission for first-time purchase + 10% revenue share from the order value of every purchase the user will make for 12 months. Whereas in the CPA model you’ll receive between $15 flat commission and $150 commission depending on the purchase.
A single fixed (flat rate) commission is best for you if:
You send your audience to a specific Gig or category.
You’re sure they would only order once and are unlikely to purchase anything else in the Fiverr marketplace.
The hybrid model makes more sense if:
You believe your audience might purchase more services later on.
You can run recurring promotions of different Fiverr services to the same audience, repeatedly.

It’s much harder to create consistent content for a topic you don’t have some kind of affinity with; so this is worth taking some time over.
Clickbank Passive Income – Gravity
The gravity is denoted on each product you see in the stats section under “grav”. “Grav: is short for the GRAVITY™ performance statistic. This number represents a unique calculation by ClickBank that takes into account the number of different affiliates who earned a commission by promoting this product over the past 12 weeks.
A high gravity isn’t necessarily a good thing, because it also means a lot of competition. Too low a gravity means the product isn’t being sold, or it’s just newly released. See also, how to use Clickbank market stats.
A gravity score under 20 might not sell very well, or it might be a new product. A gravity over 100 might be a little competitive, in terms of other affiliates promoting the product. More recent transactions are given a higher number for gravity, so a high score can mean an item is selling well. Ideally, choose a product which you want to promote and which has a gravity score between 20 and 100.
Choose A Program With Longevity
Ideally you’ll also want to choose a program which offers massive value and has longevity. It’s going to take some time to promote it using the strategy I’ll be detailing. So you don’t want your product to drop off when you’re just getting started.
It can be an idea to read a few reviews about your product first, before choosing it. Ideally purchase it too, so you can review it and get to know how good, or bad it is! If you don’t like the product, I wouldn’t recommend promoting it. You need a program you can genuinely get behind and endorse. Otherwise, you’re incongruence will show in your content and it’ll be much more difficult to keep building your website and/or YouTube presence.
There’s a huge amount of crap on Clickbank, so make sure you choose a program which is good and which you can genuinely get behind! Again, this is pretty important for a number of reasons:
If your product isn’t great, it won’t sell whatever you do
If you don’t believe in your product, or genuinely like it, it’s going to be difficult to create content and sell it congruently.
Choosing a product which doesn’t last means you’ll waste your time if it shuts down
If you don’t buy your product, and get to know it, it’ll be very difficult creating content about it, and reviewing it genuinely.
So make sure you do your research and find a product you like and which fits the above criteria. Don’t rush this part. Rushing it, or choosing a bad product will lessen your chances of making a Clickbank passive income for its sale.

Here’s a product I found which meets the main criteria:
Gravity: (40.62) – Between 20 and 100
Longevity: Health and fitness niche is very popular and it’s been around since 2016
Recurring commissions – yes!
The only downside it that this is a popular niche and it can present a problem if you’re creating content. Too much competition limits how well you can do getting website traffic. But I’ll use this as an example.
Example #2 – Clickbank Passive Income
Here’s another product I found which is more suitable for this particular piece of content (Clickbank passive income). Plus, it’s more aligned with my website in general too.
However, on closer inspection it doesn’t meet our criteria for gravity and this could present a problem.
Recurring commissions – yes
Gravity – score is less than our minimum (1.97)
Longevity – first seen 2013 so has been around a while. But with such a low gravity this could mean the sales page isn’t working very well, or that something isn’t working with the product.
Clickbank Passive Income – Selling Your Product
Once you’ve chosen a product to promote, you can start to look at building an information resource around the topic of your product. If you’ve chosen a yoga product, you’ll create a website around that topic. If you have chosen something else, such as the Clickbank Passive Income course, that will be the focus of your website.
It’s worth keeping in mind too, that certain topics are much more competitive than others. Top niches such as money making online, health and fitness, dating and relationships are usually pretty competitive and this makes it harder to gain traction in your niche. This is partly why you’re choosing recurring income products. It takes fewer sales of recurring income products to make a good income, than from one-off commissions.
Take your main keywords from your product and paste it into Google’s keyword planner. In the case of the yoga product, you could use “yoga burn challenge”, or “yoga burn” as your seed keyword. In the case of the other product (Clickbank passive income), you could use that as your seed keyword.
Find A Keyword Or Phrase Which Encompasses The “Idea” Of Your Niche Site
Ideally choose a keyword or phrase which encompasses the idea of your website. With a keyword domain name, you can get a ranking advantage with the search engines to give you more traffic. It’s only a small factor, but it can make a difference. Here’s a few keywords which came up when looking at “yoga online”. Have a look through keyword ideas and identify a keyword which you would like to build a website around.
I like the idea of “Yoga class online beginners” as it seems to meet our target audience. With the Yoga product above, you’ll want lots of hungry buyers for your product. This could be people looking for these kinds of phrases. With a niche website, we’re going to attempt to get a website up and ranking, so it gets free traffic and you make sales.
A quick online search with and without quotation marks can give you an overview of your competition. Here’s what came up for “yoga class online beginners”.
There’s clearly a lot of competition for this term and a lot of paid advertising too. If you browse through the websites which show for paid advertising, this can also be another way of finding a suitable product to promote, too.
Ideally don’t choose keywords which have heaps of advertising at the top of the search. This will mean that even if you rank your website, it will still be buried under all the paid advertising listings! Not great for traffic! If you find there’s too much competition for your idea, go back and find another keyword or product. Then start researching the keyword data and competition again.
Using The Clickbank Passive Income Example
With the other product “Clickbank passive income”, Google’s keyword planner shows only 30 searches a month for this. That’s not really enough traffic to build an entire website around. Ideally you want to have over 50 searches for your main keyword each month. When you search on Google, you want less than 10 million competing pages, and less than 20,000 phrase match pages.

Clickbank is also a trade name, so it could be an issue using it in your domain name.
Finding a good domain name with your main keyword in it can take some time. This website was built in the keywords “affiliate marketing mentors online“. I wanted “affiliate marketing mentor/s” but the domain was already taken. The key is to find a good name for the site which doesn’t have too much competition. Again this is worth spending some time on. If you choose a keyword with too much competition it will be much harder to rank your website and get traffic.
Equally, if you choose a keyword which doesn’t get many monthly searches, you may not get enough traffic either.
Building Your Resource Website
Once you find your keyword which gets monthly traffic and hasn’t got too much competition, buy a domain name with your keyword in it. If you can’t get the exact domain, get one which is close or has some extra words at the end. This article explains the process of building a niche site and creating content. If you’ve chosen something you have a passion for, this is so much easier. To find keywords which you can create content around, use your seed keyword and look at the related keywords which show up on the keyword planner.
Here’s a few keywords which came up for the “seed keyword” passive income:
Go through the same process as you did for finding your domain name. Use long tail keywords which have the fewest competing results on Google. Remember too, that you can pick up free traffic from Bing, Yahoo, Duckduckgo and other search engines which are less popular than Google.

Ranking websites on Google can be tough, and you should expect this strategy to take several months before you see sales coming in. The truth is rather less sensational, although there are affiliate marketing loopholes which can help you build an online business much faster. Just be aware though that affiliate marketing is a real business. As with any real business, it takes time to built it.
Affiliate Loophole #1 – Traffic
The first affiliate loophole I’m going to share is about traffic. One of the major problems with affiliate marketing is attracting traffic to your affiliate offers. Most affiliates struggle getting enough people to their products. When they can’t do it, they quit. Newbie mistake number 1.
Traffic can be bought or it can be earned. Paid traffic is expensive and so you’ll need a strategy to recoup advertising spend if you choose this path. Paid traffic is far more scalable than organic traffic too.
So, if you want to build an online business fast, you’ll need to use paid traffic. If you don’t want to, or can’t use paid traffic, you’ll need to come up with another strategy – such as content marketing, or some other social media strategy. See get traffic to your website free.
Paid Traffic Loophole
To use paid traffic is difficult for many aspiring affiliates. You simply cannot use paid marketing with certain products and still make a profit. Amazon, for example only pays affiliates 3-11% commissions on sales they make from the site. This kind of markup doesn’t allow for a paid marketing strategy. So you’ll need to come up with another one if you’re using this kind of program. Organic traffic is a much longer slower route and most wannabe affiliates don’t have the patience for it.
To use paid traffic you need to find products which offer high value products and large payouts. This way you can offset advertising costs in the commissions you make:
Use high ticket digital products – high ticket means they are priced at over $1000 and digital products typically pay 40% commissions and above.
Recurring commissions programs pay you ongoing commissions for the lifetime of the customer. Even with small regular ongoing commissions, this soon adds up and gives you a solid income which can be reinvested into paid marketing to gain traction.
Use a product range not just a single product – a product range means you can earn ongoing commissions from later purchases made by your existing customers.

Of course a strategy like the one described above can work well with organic traffic too. You just need the patience, and a good strategy, to make organic traffic work for you.
If you’ve tried blogging or organic video marketing already, you’ll know it’s a difficult journey getting any traction in your website traffic. Here’s an article about getting traffic to your website free using some standard practices. But it’s tough with all the competition, especially if you’re in a competitive niche.
This article, and many others are specifically chosen for the low competition for the keywords in the titles. Find the keywords through using Google’s keyword planner and targeting only the low competition keywords which you have a chance of ranking for.
Organic Traffic Using PDF’s
Organic traffic is hard to come by in almost any niche these days. Google is constantly changing their algorithms and unless you’ve been at it for a while, chances are your content won’t rank very well. Google uses many signals to determine whether or not to rank an article. Main obvious ones are:
Content quality
Time people spend on your content
Back link profile
Where these links come from
Length of your content
But you can get round spending months or years on content by aiming for the long hanging fruit. Use long tail keywords which don’t have much competition or create pdf documents which are being searched for in your niche.
Pdf’s often have very much less competition than other keywords within most niches. To find the ones being searched for already, type in your main keyword into the planner and add a pdf keyword. Here’s a few I created on this site:
Another “affiliate loophole” you can use to get organic traffic is keyword domain names. A keyword domain name contains the keyword you’re targeting within the domain name you use to build your niche website around. See also how to build a niche website and get free traffic.
15-20 years ago keyword domain names were the big fad. You could purchase a keyword domain name, build a 3 page website on it and rank at the top of Google for your main keyword with it. Nowadays things are a little different and the keyword domain name doesn’t carry so much weight as it used to.
You’ll still need to build some quality content on your site for it to rank on Google. But it still can make an impact on your ranking, even though it’s less than it was before Google updated its algorithms with updates such as Penguin and Panda.
Ideally, find a keyword which offers low competition. That’s where a keyword domain name can have the largest impact. I’ve used keyword domain names successfully too for local businesses to beat the competition. Here’s a few websites I built which used domain name keywords and where it helped with a ranking:

This is pretty low, and it’s hard to make a good income using only Amazon.

High ticket affiliate products are those which offer a large value to the customer.
