I got advertising accounts shut down, I chose the wrong products to promote, and got lost and frustrated with various marketing strategies. Once I got the right affiliate marketing mentoring, things began to change. But before this happened, I struggled for years.
You’re welcome to struggle for years too, if you wish! But I don’t recommend it. Affiliate marketing is hard, and most will quit within a year. So don’t kid yourself that it’s going to be an easy “buck”! But there’s huge rewards if you stay the course and keep going no matter what. The trouble is, 97% of people simply won’t do it. In 2014 I had been struggling as an affiliate for some years. I’d made a few sales here and there, but was still juggling a number of jobs and pursuing a career in the film industry. I found a video on Facebook which had the title “struggling with your affiliate business?” – which couldn’t have been closer to the truth! This was pretty good targeting and it made my referring affiliate, Oliver a sale!

To me Stuart seemed genuine and so I joined the community after signing up for the free video series.
Affiliate Marketing Scepticism
I was pretty sceptical at first, since I’d paid for a few courses like this and was still struggling years after. But the difference with this one was I could actually meet Stuart Ross and Jay Kubassek, the founders of the company SFM (Six Figure Mentors). I went to my first meeting and met some of the other members of the community and the person who had referred me. The second meeting was organised through the company where I met Stuart and Jay.
Of course being a sceptical and cynical person, I always had the idea that this was a scam in the back of my mind! This hesitancy didn’t serve me in building my business either! It’s a little like driving with the brakes on. “What if it’s a scam”, I kept telling myself. So I was less committed at first and more hesitant!
Affiliate Marketing – Getting Support
I was able to join a number of online groups and follow mentors and coaches through the SFM membership. At one stage I lost the faith but was able to reach out to the community. I was put in touch with a couple of mentors who pointed me to groups I could join.
One in particular helped me the most because Dan had already built a huge online business and overcome so much himself personally. Just by sitting in on his weekly webinars, I was able to better understand what I needed to do.
I also was able to access other mentors and coaches who could offer 1 on 1 affiliate marketing coaching and mentorship. Through support groups, mentorship sessions, live webinars and seminars, I was able to overcome much of my negative mindset and take the right actions to move my online business forwards.
Mindset & Working Online
The subject of mindset kept coming up within the community in the meetings. At first, I just dismissed the topic, thinking I already had the right mindset for success. But I later realised how inner conflicts, and fear were holding me back.
One of the best tools I found through The SFM was Stuart Lichtman’s book on Cybernetic-Transposition. In short terms, it’s a strategy to focus both your conscious and unconscious mind on the outcome you intend to happen.
We mostly fail with goals because we have other conflicting parts of ourselves which sabotage our best intentions. Other parts of ourselves want to keep us safe, maintain the status quo, or help others feel more comfortable. Attaining a big goal can be more difficult if we don’t integrate all parts of ourselves into the mix.
We have all experienced this to some extent. You want to lose weight, but you also want that pizza or the beer! Perhaps you want more money, but you don’t want to work any more hours, doing overtime. In Stuart’s book, he explains how you can overcome the internal conflicts and get the subconscious mind working on your target even in your sleep!
Webinars & Seminars
Another major benefit of joining a community is the ability to reach out when things aren’t going well. In the affiliate marketing business, it’s likely that things won’t go well all the time! So having people to ask questions to and learn from is important.
It’s also useful to know you’re not alone, and that others are on the same journey as you.
It’s so much more difficult to sustain a positive mindset as an affiliate when people around you are negative and sceptical of it.
If you’re surrounded by other people who don’t believe in what you’re doing, it can be very discouraging and undermining. With a community of like minded people on your side, you’re better prepared for the bad days when things don’t go to plan.
